However the arrival of Alex McLeish from Hibs as manager made Malcolm change his mind.
McLeish offered Malcolm a shot at a first team place and with the young right back coming from Glasgow he jumped at the chance and turned down a move south or the border.
Since then both sides have won their respective divisions.
