Gary Walsh joins the squad

It has been almost 12 month's since Wigan Athletic had a serious goalkeeper to challenge John filan for the number 1 shirt.

Jewell commented,"We're pleased to tie up a deal to bring Gary here as he has impressed us during pre-season. He has not played a lot of football of late so it was important he proved his fitness to us and once he had done that we were happy to offer him a deal."

"We know he's a quality keeper and he will provide excellent back up for John Filan. Knowing Gary as I do, I'm sure he'll want to put some pressure on John though and that has to be a good thing as we have lacked real competition in that department for some time now."

Walsh played for Jewell for Bradford when the boss was in charge at Valley Parade. The goalkeeper joins the squad to face Millwall on Saturday.
