Wigan Athletic manager Gary Caldwell has been nominated for the SkyBet League One Manager of the Month award for October.

The Scotsman's Latics side were unbeaten during that time, winning three and drawing three of their six league games; accumulating 12 points.

Such form has guided them up to fifth in the table, five points off an automatic promotion spot.

The Football League's official statement read: "Caldwell has taken to football management with apparent ease.

He has recruited wisely and blended old and new faces into a winning side which collected 12 points from six unbeaten games, including an emphatic 5-0 win over Colchester United."

The 33-year old has been shortlisted alongside Bradford City's Phil Parkinson, Chesterfield's Dean Saunders and Scunthorpe United's Mark Robins.

The winner will be announced on Friday.
