Francis joined Wigan from then relegated Norwich City for a deal thought to be worth around £2.25million. He had the reputation of a goalscoring midfielder, but only netted once in his short Latics career.

Wigan manager Paul Jewell said: "Damiens a great pro who never gave me anything less than maximum commitment on the field and off it. He goes with our best Wishes."

Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd said:"He's a £2million player and the fact that we've got him for the money we have is a real coup for us. Damien now, has got the opportunity to fight for a first-team place and help us climb the Premiership like we climbed the Championship."
