The 26 year old went down after a routine challenge following a right wing run. However it was clear to see from immediate television pictures that the Equadorian had badly injured his ankle.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "It is a dislocation or a fracture and he gets operated on tomorrow morning. It was an innocuous challenge but when you saw the Rangers player waving, you knew it was a bad one.

"It is a bad blow for the boy. It is similar to the injury Alan Smith got and you are talking about the rest of the season."

It goes without saying that everyone at WIGANER.net would like to wish Luis Antonio the speediest of recoveries.
