Folan ready to shoot down Pompey

New Boy: Caleb Folan
The former Chesterfield striker who cost the club £500,000 had an impressive debut at Reading's Madjeski Stadium, and despite the 3-2 defeat, he is hopeful that the club can pick up a result this weekend.

Folan told the club's official website: "To me, the fact of making my debut was great, but it was so disappointing that we didn't get anything out of the game. We had a lot of chances, especially in the first half, and if one of them had gone in, it would have been different.

"The Gaffer has told us to take the positives from that performance, and repeat them again on Saturday against Portsmouth. We just need to stay focused and keep thinking poisitively.

"It would be great to make my home debut. I've waited a long time to play in the Premiership and I want to make sure I play here for a long time.

"The pace of the game was much quicker than I have been used to, and you have to be a lot more alert. But it's a challenge I want to rise to. The Gaffer has shown huge confidence in me to bring me here, and I want to repay that faith by getting the goals he's brought me here to score.

"I'm the sort of player who'll always put the team first. I believe in just giving everything all the time. If I could make my debut and score against Portsmouth, that would be fantastic, but I'd swap all that for a victory, that's the most important thing!"

Meantime, with the arrivals of both Folan and Aghahowa to the JJB Stadium it seems that WBA chairman Jeremy Peace shot himself in the foot.

Peace rejected the chance to sell Ellington above market value at £3 million to the Latics. He foolishly held out for £4 million in a one club market.

It now seems likely that the Duke will return to the JJB in the summer for a much reduced fee.
