The 26 year old Honduran international was substituted after suffering the injury in the 28th minute. It is full credit to Figueroa that he wanted to remain on the pitch despite the serious nature of the injury.

Latics boss Martinez told the club's official website: "It was disappointing to lose Maynor midway through the first-half, and initially it looks a serious injury, regarding his medial ligaments.

"He wanted to stay on but we couldn't risk that and credit to Charles who took 5/10 minutes to adjust but finished the game in special fashion."

WIGANER.net would of course like to take this opportunity to wish Maynor the speediest of recoveries. We very much look forward to seeing him back at left back as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Paul Scharner also suffered a head injury after clashing with Clarke Carlisle in an aerial challenge.

Martinez revealed that the Austrian battled on, despite needing ten stiches in the injury after the game.

"Paul is having to have 10 stitches above his right eye but battled on to make a difference in the game," added Martinez, "That shows the character we have in the team, who will do anything to win a game."
