Carragher was released by Brian Horton from Port Vale at the end of last season and was unsuccessful in his attempts to find a new club over the summer.

Nigel Clough is the boss at Albion and he has handed Carragher lifeline in football by offering him a trial.

The 27 year old right back is expected to play in a friendly against Gresley Rovers on Tuesday.

Carragher started his career with Wigan and played 119 League games for the Latics before moving to Vale Park six years ago. He went on to play almost 200 League games for Port Vale, scoring one goal. He was also made captain of the club before his release this summer.

Good Luck Matt.
