Ellington likely to miss season opener

The Duke will have to wait for his return

'The Duke' set a target of the Blackburn game for his return to footballing action but he has been confined to a large amount of gym work after an operation to fix a knee injury.

As a result of this knee surgery Ellington may only make his return to competitve action in September, which will be a huge disappointment to Wigan Athletic fans and Paul Jewell.

In Ellington's absence Liddell is likely to partner Neil Roberts up front, with the line up being the same as the one which beat Blackburn Rovers early this month.
