The 25 year old forward left the Latics in a £3 million move to the Hawthorns and would command a similar fee any return move.

Nicknamed the Duke, Ellington became a firm favourite with the Wigan fans before his move to Albion. He upset supporters with comments reagarding the move to further his career at a bigger club.

His goals alongside Jason Roberts helped to fire the Latics into the top flight, and manager Paul Jewell clearly feels that Ellington is the man to bolster his front line for the second half of the campaign.

After a poor first season in the Premiership with West Brom, the Duke has found first team starts hard to come by.

Just last week and Ellington's advisor, Tony Finnigan, was looking to engineer a move for the the striker.

Finnigan commented that discussions were ongoing between the Latics and the Baggies, he said: "Wigan have been in talks with West Brom and are interested in taking things further."

There are strong rumours that a bid has been accepted and even so far that the Duke has been spotted at the club's training ground undergoing a medical.

The club has yet to comment on the speculation.
