Ellington exit Clause activated?

First mention of the possible clause was on Talksport radio this afternoon. With rumours rife of what that clause could be, local reports in West Brom claim that West Broms relegation activated it.

Ellington: Friends re-united with Jason Roberts?
However, what clause that's been activated, if any, is unknown. The most probable is a certain fee that allows the Duke to talk to possible suitors.

Last summer, the Midlands club activated a £3million get out clause that was placed in Ellingtons contract when he signed from Bristol Rovers four years ago. Bryan Robson cheekily bid £3,000,001 and got his man.

It has since been rumoured that Wigan boss Paul Jewell wants to bring Ellington back, who is a close friend of Jason Roberts. When quizzed about the possiblity of his former strike partner returning, Roberts simply replied "Watch this space."

Baggies manager Bryan Robson has warned Wigan off bidding for the Duke, saying he will fight 'tooth and nail' to keep hold of the striker who he beleives can shoot the Baggies to an immediate Premiership return.

At first, fans reactions to the possibility of Ellingtons return was met with a wave of hostility, many arguing that 'the judas' had made his bed and now must lie in it; after the striker claimed he was "bettering himself" by signing for West Brom.

That claim has been proved spectacularly wrong, not only did West Brom get relegated, but Wigan finished in the top ten and reached a major cup final.

Yet as the rumours mounted, and it become known that Ellington was supposedly desperate to return to the Latics, fans opinions have swayed, with a majority now hoing that the deadly duo of Roberts and Ellington can be re-united and that they can recreate the form that made them the deadliest strike-partership in England.

As Jason Roberts said, watch this space....
