The form of Maynor Figueroa has been the major source of Edman's troubles as he has battled back to full fitness following a bad knee injury.
Now the 31 year old defender needs first team football and his agent, Allan Bak Jensen has confirmed that Sheffield United is the likely destination.
He said: "There has been a big interest from Dutch clubs and recently Erik turned down a big German club that wanted to take him on loan till this summer. Sheffield United would suit Erik really good. The club has expressed a big interest in loaning Edman.
"But nothing is definite yet. A loan to Sheffield would suit really good for social reasons. Erik and his wife Hanna are awaiting a third child and don't want to move. Going on loan will probably not be the final move."
