Duke, Camara and Francis Latest

The Duke is facing a race for fitness ahead of the season opener with Chelsea. Boss Paul Jewell said: "It was a real boost for Duke to be back in action and it's a massive boost for us as well. He's worked really hard to get back to fitness, but I know it's not been easy for him to sit and watch while everyone else has been playing.

Francis: Set to sign
"He's still got a big challenge on his hands to be match fit for the Chelsea game because he's still a few weeks behind the rest of the lads. However, knowing Nathan as I do, he'll move heaven and earth to make sure he has a chance for the start of the season. Duke will get some more game time at Accrington Stanley, as will a couple of the lads who played at Morecambe."

It had been thought that the two sides could agree terms but that would require the Latics going back with a slightly better offer. Something the have revealed they will not do. A statement from the club read: "Wigan can confirm we had a bid accepted by Wolves for Henri Camara. However Wigan have failed to agree personal terms with the player."

Whilst it seems very possible that Damien Francis will be a Latics player by this evening. He has agreed personal terms with the club and seems to have sorted out his dispute with Norwich over a payoff. He is expected at the JJB for a medical before being confirmed as Jewell's fifth summer signing.

The Latics boss said: "I've had a call from the players' agent to say the lad wants to sign and he'll be coming up to tomorrow to complete the deal I hope. He's scheduled to have a medical at the JJB stadium in the morning and then if all goes according to plan he'll train with us.

"I'm a big believer that a deal isn't done until it's actually done, but all the signs are positive at this moment in time."
