Double defender swoop expected

Preston left back Matt Hill
The Robinson move has been ongoing for some tiem now and the 27 year old full back sat out the Baggies opening fixture with Burnley and is expected to sign on a pay-as-you-play deal some time this week.

A £2 million transfer between the clubs had been agreed, but Robinson proceeded to fail a medical at the JJB and the trnasfer has been on hold ever since with the two clubs unable to come to a renewed agreement.

Meantime, Hill, is said to be subject to a £1 million offer from the Latics for his services. It is unclear whether North End would let the defender leave after he won the club's Player of the season award last term.

After starting his career with Bristol City, Hill's rise through the leagues has been steady and after a lengthy spell in the Championship with Preston, the 26 year old would love a move to the top flight.

It is unlikely that either player will join in time to face Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening, but both players could well be in place for Saturday's game with Sunderland if Hutchings has his way.

Rumours linking the club with striker Lomano Lua Lua have now been quashed with the Pompey striker joining Greek side Olympiakos.

In a bid to bolster his front line, Hutchings could turn to Manchester United with a bold attempt to take either Ole Gunnar Solksjaer or youth team starlet Fraizer Campbell on loan until Christmas.
