The 22 year old midfielder was working hard in the gym yesterday to ensure the knee injury he sustained against Liverpool is fully recovered. Diame suffered a strain of his the ligaments in his knee and the postponed fixture against Bolton on Monday was a blessing in disguise for the midfielder.

It was expected that the Frenchman may be out for upto a month but he may return to first team action just ten days after suffering the injury. Diame has made a faster than expected recovery and this is in no small part to the hard work he has put in in the gym.

It is expected that all other players should be fit for the game with the Latics needing to be at their best to beat a competitive Rovers side.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez told the club's official website: "They (Blackburn) are a very competitive side, and they'll look to come here in search of a win. I think it will be a very open game, but they do restrict teams to very little, they're organised, strong and they can score goals from out of nowhere, said Martinez.

"They also have a huge threat from dead-ball situations and we'll have to be aware of that. The concentration levels from set-pieces are vital, but we've been tested on that this season, more recently against Stoke City, and we've showed that we can cope with that.

"Overall, I'm sure it will be an exciting game to watch between two teams looking for a win."

Doubts about whether the game will take place have been reduced to a minimum with the club spending a five figure sum to ensure the game takes place.
