The fee involved is believed to be in the region of £3million, and it is thought that the Latics beat off stiff competition from a number of Premiership clubs to sign the defender, known to the fans as 'One Size.'

'One Size' Fitz Hall
The 25-year-old established himself as one of the most accomplished defenders outside the Premiership, after spending two years with Crystal Palace, of which one was spent in the Premiership.

Wigan boss Paul Jewell has spoken of his delight with his first summer capture: "Fitz is a terrific capture for us, and it's a great boost that we've beaten off such stiff competition to land him."

He added: "We've been tracking him for a long time, but of course Palace were very reluctant to let go such an important player. The Wigan fans will love him, he has everything you could look for in a defender. He's strong, athletic, aggresive and more importantly, has bags of pace."

Talking to his new clubs official website, Fitz Hall said: "As a player the Premiership is where you want to be and when a club as ambitious as Wigan came in, there really wasn't any hesitation."

"Wigan surprised so many people last year by finishing 10th in the League and getting to the Carling Cup final, and i want to be part of that success story in the future, i can't wait to get started."
