De Zeeuw's race for fitness

Last updated : 06 December 2005 By Paul Farrington
Arjan De Zeeuw
recieved his results this morning.

The news was good and there is no serious or permanent damage to the knee and it should be fine for Saturday.

However manager Paul Jewell revealed that there may be another injury reason for De Zeeuw's absence.

He told wiganathletic.tv: "The results of the scan have shown good news. The injury is certainly more short term than long term and most importantly there is no permanent damage. We are very pleased with the results.

"However, Arry's still got an injury that will require physio treatment throughout the week. It's too early at this stage to say whether he'll be fit for the weekend's match at Chelsea, it's one we'll be keeping an eye on that's for sure."

De Zeeuw himself will not want to miss this game, not only because of its huge importance, but he won't want to lose his place to Matt Jackson who has been impressive as the Dutchman's deputy in recent games.
