Arjan De Zeeuw: Gunning for victory
... to earn himself a new contract for next season. As it stands De Zeeuw needs to play 19 games in order to activate a clause in his contract entitling the Dutchman to another twelve months.

He has currently played the opening eleven games for Paul Jewell's side and chairman Dave Whelan has no doubt that De Zeeuw will reach that target.

Whelan said: "Arjan needs to play 50 per cent of the league games and I've no doubt he'll do that."

Meanwhile De Zeeuw himself feels refreshed after the two week break and can't wait to face Arsenal forward Thierry Henry.

He told the Wigan Observer: "We realise how hard this game is going to be against Arsenal - it will be a big test, but it's one we're ready for. Arsenal will be coming here expecting to win. But they will be wary of us having seen our performances so far.

"We know we're going to be tested severely, but we've beuilt ourselves a platform where we can afford to get tested. We want to win the next five game and we believe we're good enough."
