Contract Extension: Arjan De Zeeuw
A clause in the Dutchman's contract was acitvated with the 35 year old now starring in 50% of Premiership games this season, thus earning him a further twelve months.

De Zeeuw was delighted with the extension and believes he can continue playing, he said: "I signed a contract for a year in the summer with the option of a further year.

"I've always said if I feel fit and I'm not starting to annoy myself I will carry on as long as possible. I've been happy with how things have gone so far- this has been a great move for me."

Chairman Dave Whelan also confirmed this week that he had no hesitation signing De Zeeuw when Paul Jewell approached him for backing in the summer.

Whelan commented: "I knew what a great player Arry was and when Paul came to me in the summer and said he'd like to re-sign him, there was no hesitation on my part.

"He was absolutely fantastic for us the first time he was here. He may be 35 now, but I know him and what a fantastic professional he is.

"He looks after his body and has a superb attitude and purpose towards the game. He's been inspiriational this season and can easily go on for another year."

De Zeeuw has missed just two league games this turn for the Latics. He had to sit out the trips to Chelsea and Old Trafford with an ankle injury, Wigan lost both games.
