de Vos will join fellow Latics player Nathan Ellington on the sidelines at a key time for the Latics as they look to establish themselves in a new division.

Boss Paul Jewell said: "It's a big loss for us to lose Jason de Vos, he's going to be out for three or four months! But's someone's misfortune is an opportunity for somebody else.

"Half the spine of the team has gone with Duke and de Vos out. It's a big loss for us, but we have to get on with it."

These two key injuries may force Jewell's hand in the transfer market after seeing just Gary Walsh sign over the summer and a bid of £1.5 million for Baggies striker Jason Roberts turned down yesterday.
