Wigan Athletic midfielder David Perkins has signed a one-year contract extension at the DW Stadium.

The 33-year old joined the club in the summer as a free agent, but originally signed a 12-month deal until 2016.

His new contract will keep him at the Latics until the summer of 2017.

When speaking to the official club website, Perkins said: "I'm absolutely made up, I couldn't be happier with where I'm at in my career at the moment.

We spoke about it on Tuesday and I signed the contract on Thursday, and it's great to now be able to concentrate on my football for the rest of the season without worrying about my future at any point."

He also added: "It's nice to have that security, my family are made up for me and my partner said she's seen a new person in me since I arrived at Wigan, I've got a smile on my face now.

I couldn't be prouder to play for the club, all of the players and staff have been great since I arrived here."

The ex-Blackpool man also insisted that he is fully focused on trying to achieve promotion with Wigan during this campaign.
