Coyle embarrassed by McClean questions

A number of over-excited journalists were quick to jump on McClean's decision to wear a 'non-poppy' shirt last season for Sunderland against Everton in the run-up to Remberance Sunday.

Hence when the Republic of Ireland international was omitted from the team sheets for Sunday's win over Yeovil, rumours were rife that he had been dropped in a Poppy-Gate saga.

Coyle was quick to clear up the situation and he said: "The only reason James McClean didn't play today because he was injured, it's as simple as that.

"He would certainly have been involved if he was fit. I'm never evasive and always up front, but I'm actually embarrassed that I'm getting asked that question in this day and age."

McClean endured a slow start to his Wigan career but, as with the team as a whole, he has looked much improved in recent weeks.
