Cisse linked with summer move

The 27 year old is valued around the £8 million mark by Marseille, but would have to take a pay cut from his £60,000 a week wages if he is to fit into the pay structure at the JJB Stadium.

The French international forward was linked with the Latics over the summer, but completed a loan move to the Stadium of Light after Steve Bruce's capture of Egyptian Amr Zaki.

Sunderland however seem reluctant to make Cisse's loan move from Marseille permanent after the departure of Roy Keane. Whilst Cisse himself does not want to return to France and is hoping to remain in the Premiership.

Speaking about his present deal with Sunderland, Cisse said: "I don't really want to go back to Marseille. I would not have a problem with staying here [England]. I have had some good moments with Sunderland and there are 10 games to go this season so hopefully there will be more.

"I know things have changed because the British currency is not as strong. We also need to get points to make sure we stay in the Premier League - that is everybody's priority. It is no one's fault that the decision is not made but I still need to know."

Cisse's loan deal with Sunderland expires in the summer, but his contract with Marseille will still have two years to run.

The Black Cats had agreed a fee of around £8 million for the striker, but Marseille are likely to have to lower that valuation if they are to find a suitor for the striker.
