Chimbonda hands in Transfer Request

Last updated : 08 May 2006 By Liam Cooper
The news comes as a major blow, as Chimbonda has established himself as a firm fans favourite and his performances this season had seen him voted the best right back in the Premierhsip

Chimbonda stunned Whelan, manager Paul Jewell, and all his team-mates when he handed in a written transfer request in the ressing room at Highbury after Wigan's last game of the season, straight after the final whistle.

Whelan added that the player hadn't even got changed out of his kit, he said:" I thought the timing of the request was absolutely diabolical. There is a time and a place to do such a thing, and after a game like this is not that time. But he can go. I have said to him we will not stand in his way becaus we cannot afford to have players at this club who do not want to play for us and are 100% committed to the cause."

Whelan has reiterated that Chimbonda won't leave on the cheap:" The price is £6million, not a penny less. If anybody wants to pay that, they can buy him, if they don't he can play in the reserves until the day his contract is over. I've talked with Paul Jewell and we both agree. That situation will not change, unless he pulls his socks up and say's he's a Wigan Athletic player through and through".

"when you get incidents like this it's so disappointing for the club. We've brought him here from being unknown in France and given him a platform this season. He's played very well for us but this is no way to repay us."

"There is no clause in his contract and £6million is what a club needs to put on the table. No less, and that's my final word."

And i think it's safe to say that every Latics  fan agrees with What Dave Whelan has said.
