Arjan De Zeeuw, Pascal Chimbonda, Jimmy Bullard, Stephane Henchoz, Leighton Baines and Damien Francis have played in all the Latics league games this campaign.

Jewell told the Wigan Observer: "I never really like changing the team, but maybe we've got to give some players a rest. We're coming into a tough run of fixtures and we've got a lot of fixtures in a short space of time.

"We've used very few players so far this season. Maybe it's something I've got to look at. To win a game at this level we have to be at our 100 percent maximum, physically and mentally.

"The season is taking its toll. I've spoken to other managers and they say by January some players are almost shot.

"The players who have got us to seventh in the table have played most of the games. I think some will benefit from a break.

"We're on a run of arguably the toughest fixtures any team will have in the Premier League all season. They aren't to be feared, but we know it's a really hard group of games.

"We're going to Chelsea with a game plan and we'll try and maximise what we've got. If they play well and we play well then we'll lose.

"But we pushed them them all the way on the first day of the season. We know it's going to different away from home, but we've got to go there and believe we can win."

Ryan Taylor, Josip Skoko and David Connolly are the main contenders for a first team spot with Bullard, Francis and Camara expected to make way.

Steve McMillan may also play ahead of Leighton Baines who is rumoured to be suffering from fatigue.
