Cattermole out for three months

Cattermole, 21, was stretchered off in Sunderland's weekend victory over Liverpool at the Stadium of Light.

Initial fears that he may have damaged the medial ligament were confirmed by Dr Glen Rae, head of medical at Sunderland. He told the club's official website: "Lee was examined immediately after the game and an MRI scan was scheduled for Monday morning.

"He was taken to see our knee specialist in the afternoon, who unfortunately confirmed what we'd suspected - damage to the MCL. The good news is Lee doesn't require an operation, meaning he can remain at the Academy throughout."

In terms of the Latics, it speaks volumes for both Hendry Thomas and Mo Diame that Cattermole has not been missed.

The youthful midfield duo have been very impressive since Cattermole departed for Sunderland and it is clear to see why Martinez was none too bothered about the England under 21 international's departure.

Of course, it goes without saying that everyone at WIGANER.net wishes Lee the speediest of recoveries as he battles for a place in the England World Cup squad next summer.
