Cattermole grateful for break

Cattermole told the Wigan Evening Post: "I think 10 of the lads who usually play [for the under 21's] have been given a break for this one, the coach is giving other lads a game."

England face the Czech Republic in Sheffield tonight and the Latics do not play until Monday. "It's good to have a rest this week, we've got a couple of days off with the Everton game not being until Monday," continued Cattermole.

"This is a chance to recharge the batteries. I've played a lot of football this season and sometimes you need a break.

"I've already played the same amount of games for Wigan this season than I did for Middlesbrough in the whole of last season.

"The Premier League is tough going and a quick rest is always welcome."

The young midfielder however was fined for a public order offence over the weekend after he remained in the North East following the Latics' game with Newcastle.

A club statement read: "Wigan Athletic Football Club can confirm that midfielder Lee Cattermole was involved in an incident on Saturday night outside a nightclub in Teesside," read a statement on Wigan's official website.

"Cattermole was given a fixed penalty ticket for a public order offence. The club is investigating the incident and will deal with the matter internally.

"The club will not be commenting any further on this issue."
