Roy Carroll: Released by United
He was initially second choice at the club behind Fabian Barthez but became first choice when the French man left the club.

Despite pressure from Ricardo and Tim Howard, Carroll has remained the number one goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

Media reports had suggested that he may well sign a contract extension this week after recieving certain assurances over his future as number one from Sir Alex Ferguson.

However it seems that these promises were not forth-coming and the goalkeeper is free to find a new club.

Carroll's last appearance for United was in the F.A. Cup Final defeat to Arsenal.

He may well become a target of Paul Jewell's who has made no secret of his desire for a new goalkeeper.

Ricardo, Ramon Calliste, Ben Collett, Daniel Nardiello, David Poole,Paul Tierney and Wigan lad Lee Lawrence - have also been released.
