Captain Jackson pleased with win

After a miserable run of nine straight defeats it was pleasing to put five points between ourselves and the drop zone.

Lee McCulloch's second half goal was enough to gain all three points after managing to keep a clean sheet.

Jackson played no small part in the clean sheet and put in a superb performance leading by example from the back.

He told the club's official website: "It's always an honour to captain the side but really, Saturday, wasn't about me, or any other one individual. It was a real collective effort.

"No one likes losing and when you go on the sort of run we did, it can start to eat away at you. But, from the manager downwards, we have remained positive as a group of players over the past weeks and we kept believing in ourselves.

"We said before the kick off that this was a match we couldn't afford to lose and we went out with the right attitude. Even in the warm up, you could see that the boys were up for it.

"The crowd responded to the effort we were putting in and I thought that everyone played their part. Lee scored the goal, which was a reward for his tireless working.

"We're far from safe yet, but we know that if we put in the kind of display we did on Saturday for the rest of the season, we will pick up results. This team has always benefited from enormous self-belief, and nothing will change on that score."

Next up for the Latics is a tricky trip to the Emirates on the 11th February to face Arsenal.
