Bullard, 26, has been linked recently with a number of Premiership clubs but he is focused on promotion with the Latics. He has already managed 31 appearances for the Latics this season and is looking forward to the 16 remaining fixtures.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "The 16 games left will be like cup finals but we'll be going out knowing we have the ability to win every game.

"Clubs at the top are going to take points off each other but we're in a strong position and there's real determination in the dressing room.

"We are stronger this time round and we all want to be playing in the Premiership."

"Sometimes you find yourself taking a step back and thinking you could be playing Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea next season, but this is what we want. You also have to realise we have to get there first, and that is why these remaining 16 matches are so massive - they really will be of Cup Final importance.

"We're currently in a great position in what's a tough competitive league. I agree with manager Paul Jewell that we'll not have a better chance of going up.

"Our destiny is in our hands. People are looking at the three teams at the top - Ipswich, us and Sunderland - but there are others still in with a shout. We can't afford to rely on anyone else. We have to concentrate on our own results and not worry what anyone else is doing.

"The sides near the top will be taking points off each other and it's up to us to take advantage of that, especially when you think West Ham, Sunderland, Ipswich and Reading still have to come to our place.

"When you look at us we are in a better position than last year - we're more experienced and the squad is better. Wigan are a great club with a lot going for them.

"I'm loving my football and I remember speaking to Paul Jewell before I came here when the club were top of Division Two and heading for promotion. They were in a great position then and things have gone on to work out well ever since for me. The boys in the squad are brilliant and I've learned so much from the coaching."
