Bullard up for 100

The 26 year old midfielder has been one of the corner stones of the team over the past two years and has won praise from even the most pesimistic Latics supporter.

He joined the club from Peterborough United for a fee of £300,000 and will become only the sixth Latics player to achieve the feat.

Bullard told the clubs official website: "I've been here more than two years now and that's unbelievable because I can remember my first day here like it was yesterday. Time has just flown by and I have enjoyed every minute of my time here. I didn't realise that I was getting close to 100 games until one of the press guys mentioned it a couple of weeks ago so I was quite surprised. If I do play on Saturday it'll be a really pleasing achievement for me but I can't really put my finger on why I've managed to do it.

"Obviously I've been lucky with injuries and that but it's a lot down to the people here and the people around the club I think. You just don't want to miss any matches and therefore you can get out on the field on the day of the game even if you've been struggling in the build up to it.

"The last month has been a bit of a worry because I've been on four bookings for ages and knew that if I got another one I'd be forced to miss a game. Thankfully I got through until the end of February without getting another card and that means that I'm clear now. I must admit that a couple of times I thought I was in a bit of trouble but I've been talking to referees really nicely over the past few weeks so that they might take that into account if I did put in a late tackle or anything!! Luckily for me I got away with a couple of things and that means that I'm on course to reach the 100 mark now.

"What we must do now is focus on this weekend's game against Millwall and make sure that we do not waste the good result that we got against Ipswich last week. I'm sure that Millwall will make it hard for us but if we go about our business in the right manner we should be OK and one thing's for sure, we won't be found wanting in terms of effort when we run out on to the field on Saturday."
