Bruce wants win for 'loyal' fans

Yes, the club has had a poor run of form recently, but what a great season when you put things into perspective. Back in October, everyone was gearing up for a relegation battle with a run of straight defeats, now, the club sit in mid-table having failed to push on for a place in the top 7 which was an ambitious aim.

Credit must go to Bruce who has transformed the team and got the club working for one another. When the team is losing, fans will obviously be unhappy and begin to fear about where the next win will come from but when the club is winning, fans think they can win every game.

Bruce has certainly taken an overview and has called on his players to finish the season in style. The last win came in the 1-0 victory over Hull and with Portsmouth coming to the JJB on Sunday, Bruce wants to give the fans a proper send off for the summer by securing the 3 points.

Speaking to the Wigan Observer, Bruce said "We want to go out with a bang if we possibly can, that would be terrific.

"The supporters we've got are a loyal bunch and while we may not have the biggest of crowds, let's hope we can make it a decent atmosphere.

"It would be nice to put in a good performance like we did against Man Utd and go out in style, that's what we will be looking for."

''It has been a bit of frustrating time for us," Bruce continued. "Yes we played really well against United but we have to be honest with ourselves, against Stoke we weren't good enough and that's disappointing after what could have been an outstanding season.

"However, we've still got a big game on Sunday. Can we go on and beat Portsmouth?

"Can we finish 11th, because obviously Stoke play Arsenal?

"If somebody had said to us before hand we were going to finish 11th, we would have taken that after the two seasons that we have just had.

"And we are realistic here at Wigan, we know we are always punching above our weight but we have done exceptionally well."

"In terms of finance it means a new player, or a player's salary for the year - that's the difference it makes.

"So it is huge and I hope we can finish off in some sort of style. If we repeat the Manchester United performance, we won't be far short."

The summer will be one of the shortest the Premier League has seen in a while so football will be back on the agenda soon with next seasons fixtures released on the 11th of June. Let's hope for a fruitful summer where the club doesn't lose too many valuable players and brings in yet more quality to really push on for next season.
