Bruce: Latics well placed to avoid the drop

Bruce told the Wigan Evening Post: "I wish the season could finish now with us where we are in the table. Considering the position we were in when I arrived, the players have done remarkably well.

"They have taken on board what we are trying to do, there's a good spirit among them and they are competitive. We have given ourselves an outstanding chance of avoiding relegation - but the job is far from done.
"The position near the bottom changes week by week.

"A fortnight ago we were suicidal when we lost at Sunderland, now we have turned it around by beating Derby. With the number of teams involved, it's going to go right down to the end of the season."

Next up for the Latics is a tough trip to Manchester City on Saturday evening. City are strong on their home turf and Bruce will be well aware of the difficulty facing the side.
