Bruce hoping to tie deals up

He told the Wigan Observer: "We're looking at several options and hope to start a few things soon. We're close to a couple of things happening and we're working very hard to get it done.

"It could be quite a busy period for us and we've made significant progress recently."

There is also good news on the contract renewals front with Player of the Season, Paul Scharner expected to sign an extension to his current deal.

The Austrian defender had been rumoured to want a move away from the club, but manager Steve Bruce has seemingly convinced Scharner as to the potential the Latics have.

A deal is likely to happen on Friday when Scharner returns from his holiday in Austria.
