Brown has long been rumoured to be a target of Hutchings, along with midfielder Koumaswho joined earlier in the month.

Koumas's signing has not deterred Hutch' from attempting to sign Brown, with an initial £2.5million being paid and a further £500,000 paid in performance related payments as well as if Wigan avoid the drop.

And Fulham manager Laurie Sanchez expects any possible deal to be completed within days: "Michael is still talking with Wigan, It should be resolved one way or another over the next couple of days."

There are also rumours that Leighton Baines is unsure whether Sunderland would be the right club to join, with the left-back hoping for more established club, such as Everton, to lodge a bid for his services.
