After signing on a free transfer from Newcastle, Bramble has gone on to become an integral part of the Latics defence and his performances have been top class.

The defender puts much of that down to the fact that he is playnig regularly with the club and is enjoying his football.

Bramble told the Wigan Evening Post: "I spoke a couple of times with Portsmouth in the summer, but I just thought Wigan was the better move for me.

"And I don't regret it one bit. I'm enjoying my football, and playing week in, week out, is something every footballer wants to do the most. The gaffer has given me the chance to do that, and I do think my game has improved under him.

"You can see that from my performances, and that's credit to Chris Hutchings."

Bramble also told the club's official website that he is releshing the weekend's game and is hoping for three points.

He continued: "It's going to be a really tough match because Portsmouth have made an excellent start to the season. They've added real power into their squad over the summer and I know that we are going to have to be at our best to get the win."

"But that is exactly what we are aiming for. With the experience we have in the squad, we go into every match believing we can win."
