Bramble departs

The 28 year old defender has left for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £3 million.

The defender would appear to be surplus to Roberto Martinez's plans for a more footballing Wigan Athletic and feels he can achieve more back up in the North East.

The former England under 21 defender had a torrid time during his last spell in the North East with Newcastle when he became the butt of a number of jokes following a series of errors.

The move also smacks of a lack of ambition from Sunderland whom Bruce joined from the Latics under a wave of promises including big spending and top siz finishes.

Speaking about the move to the club's official website; Martinez said: "Sometimes you have to make financial decisions for the good of the club and allow the squad to develop and get stronger.

"Everyone here wishes Titus all the best for the future because he has been a magnificent servant to Wigan Athletic in his time here."

While Bramble himself said: "I want to thank everyone at Wigan because I have really enjoyed my time there. The fans have been brilliant to me and to win the Player of The Year Award from both the supporters and my fellow pros is something I will never forget."
