Blackburn Rovers Preview

Last updated : 11 December 2008 By Michael Goodman

Paul Ince has had a tough start to life in the Premier League with Blackburn currently in the bottom three and without a league win since September. He has made his way up through the divisions starting at the bottom of the football league with Macclesfield. After keeping them afloat, Ince then moved onto MK Dons and gained promotion to League One in his first season in charge. The big move to Blackburn came after Mark Hughes left for Manchester City and Ince jumped at the chance for life in the top flight.

Blackburn are struggling so far this season and as the pressure builds on Ince for results, the fans know that a win on Saturday will relieve the pressure for a little while longer. Rovers have a record which a few Wigan fans will be wary of come kick off, with Blackburn scoring three goals on all of their Premier League visits to the JJB. The last game between the two sides on Wigan soil was a strange game ending in a 5-3 thriller for the home side. Many will hope for more of the same but Steve Bruce will take any win in any shape or form.

At the Emirates last week, Wigan put in a good performance but ended up on the losing side, ending the clubs 5 game unbeaten run. Saturday provides a good opportunity to get back to winning ways and Bruce will want the squad raring to go.

Emmerson Boyce is certain to miss out after tearing his hamstring against Arsenal, Paul Scharner could be fit after missing the last two games with a groin strain. Amr Zaki is in contention after returning last Saturday. Wilson Palacios is suspended after picking up his 5th booking of the season.

Blackburn Key Players

Paul Robinson - The former England goalkeeper is still one of the best in his department in the country. Can be a key figure in Rovers' hunt for something from the game.

Stephen Warnock - Highly rated full back is a product of the Liverpool academy, linked with a move to Tottenham in January and is pushing for place in England squad.

Morton Gamst Pedersen - The Norwegian winger has a great left foot and is known for scoring spectacular goals. A danger from set pieces as well.

Matt Derbyshire - Making a real impact recently with a few important goals. If paired up front with Santa Cruz, will stand a chance of scoring on Saturday.

Prediction

A scrappy game with both sides looking for the vital 3 points, a draw is on the cards in this game.
