Bitter glass back takes swipe at Wigan

Glass back in the good old days
Possibly the worst ever player to don the Wigan Athletic shirt, McLoughlin came with quite a reputation when he travelled up from Portsmouth.

With over 500 games for Pompey under his belt and an international career too, the Latics faithful were hoping for somewhat more than we got.

He turned out instead to be another in a long list of John Benson money wasters as the 34 year old suffered an injury within weeks of joining the club before quickly been showing hte exit door.

Not bad for a player who cost around £300,000 in what was then Division Two.

Fast forward to the present and McLoughlin now writes in a local Pompey newspaper. Here is a snap shot of what he had to say following this weekend's defeat at the hands of Portsmouth.

"On a personal note, to see Pompey beat Wigan gives me a double amount of enjoyment. As a player I left Pompey and went to Wigan - my hand was forced.

"I only played about 15 games for them before I picked up a bad back injury. How can I put this? I didn't think I was treated particularly well at Wigan.

Certain people thought I was feigning my injury. I'd played over 500 games and was an experienced player - that was the last thing I was going to do. I enjoyed playing up there.

"But I always find it satisfying when Pompey win up there. So to see then win on Saturday with two late goals is even more pleasurable. It's fair to say it's not my favourite place to go."

Thanks for that Alan. Nice to see your using your column for the good or the world and all that.
