Bent looking forward to competition

The former Leicester City man has made two appearances during his loan move to date. The first was making his debut at St. James' Park in the 1-0 loss due to Kevin Kilbane's red card and also made his home debut within ten minutes with the 1-1 draw against Fulham when Emile Heskey went off suffering from a broken metatarsal.

"The game that I came on against Newcastle was quite quick," commeted Bent, "I signed on the Thursday and travelled on the Friday. But I enjoyed it up there although we lost 1-0, but we took positives out of that."

"The game at the weekend, although you have to be confident, you have to expect to get on as early as possible, I didn't think it would be that early and especially for the Hesk."

Emile Heskey's injury though has also opened up the door for other strikers such as Julius Aghahowa and David Cotterill, and Marcus Bent told of how there's also still competition for places.

"That's what players want competition, I think you just get a little bit lethargic if there isn't any competition and you just expect to play every week, but there's lots of competition here."
