Believe and prosper

These past 5 seasons have pretty much been miserable against the top four. Four points claimed ever since the club was promoted back in 2005 is a poor record to have and Martinez wants this horrendous run to end as early as tomorrow.

"I think we have given them too much respect," said Martinez.

"It is no coincidence we have played 34 games against them - a huge number of games - and not beaten them. It is a staggering statistic.

"It is more than the fitness of tactical and technical aspects, it is the psychological approach to the game which is something we needed to change.

"We need to be stronger mentally because that will allow our football to challenge the team on the pitch."

"You shouldn't perform in a different way just because you are playing the top four.

"If you perform in the same way and they are better than you then we'll take that but we shouldn't give the game to another side just because of their name or reputation.

"The two lessons we have to learn are not to give too much respect to the opposition and to believe in ourselves more."

Wigan fans live in hope that the light at the end of the tunnel is drawing near. The win against the ‘big four’ should come soon. It’s just a case of when, not if.
