A one-year deal is said to be on the table for the former West Ham midfielder who has impressed Martinez during his pre-season trial.
“We are very clear in the positions we need to strengthen, and we are going to make sure we bring the right players in,” Martinez told the Wigan Evening Post.
“Everyone knows we don’t bring players in for the sake of it, just because of their names. We bring players in who we feel can bring something different to the football club.
“It’s not about bringing in– it’s about bringing in the right players at the right time.”
The 26 year old midfielder did not make a competitive appearance suring his time with the Hammers but is desperate to prove himself in the top flight of English football.
