Baines Staying / No Duke return

Sunderlands North-east rivals Newcastle have also been linked with Baines in the past, but apparantly were put off by the rumoured £6million price tag.
No Duke Return

Almost as funny as Sunderlands attempt was rumours that fellow strugglers of last year West Ham were interested in the England Under-21 regular, despite blocking an attempt to sign their striker Marlon Harewood.

Despite the increased attention Baines (last seasons official Player of the year) is getting, Hutch expects his talented defender to remain with the latics.

"Baines has told me he is happy to stay and I am certainly not looking to sell him."

Hutch also ruled out a move for former striker nathan Ellington, who has been linked with the club in every transfer window since his £3,000,001 move to West Brom.

"I am not sure about bringing players back for a second spell.

We will not be pursuing this. But we have a number of options open to us."

Wigan are continuing with their attempts to sign West Brom midfielder Jason Koumas, with some internet sources claiming a bid has been accepted, although no official word on this yet.
