Baines sad to see 'close friend' Bullard leave
The two players, both influential in helping Wigan to tenth place, are the best of friends and Baines has admitted he was surprised to hear of Bullards' departure.

The young left back also disagreed with Bullard's claim that Fulham is a big step up, stating that Wigan had more potential than Fulham after a more successful Premiership campaign, whilst reaching a major cup final.

Talking to the Wigan evening post, he said: "I'm quite gutted Jimmy has gone, he was a close friend and a very good player for us."

"I wish him all the best at Fulham, it is probably a decent move for him."

"Personally, I wouldn't see it as a big step for Jimmy, Fulham are slightly more established but our club has so much potential."

Baines also updated us on his own contract situation, saying: "I want to stay here at Wigan, I haven't thoguht about moving."

"The club has been great for me. I came throught the youth team, and have played from the second division through to the Premiership."

"Fingers crossed, i can get this contract signed and keep my place in the team next season."
