Kilbane: Support for Hutchings
Baines and Kilbane support for new boss Hutchings

Both Leighton Baines and Kevin Kilbane have offered their support for new manager Chris Hutchings.

Speaking after receiving his player of the season award, Baines told the club's official website: "Everyone in the dressing room was shocked when Paul Jewell decided to go, I for one owe him an awful lot because it is him who gave me my debut and has helped me establish myself.

"But it is also very good for continuity that Chris is now the new gaffer. He knows us all, and it won't disrupt the dressing room during the summer, wondering who is going to come in.

"He is a great coach and I've no doubt that he has what it takes to make it in management. All the team are behind him."

Whilst Irish international midfielder Kevin Kilbane added: "He [Hutchings] will come in and he will hopefully take on and move forward from what Paul Jewell plays.

"Yeah definitely [he is the man for the job], the chairman spoke to all the players, just basically saying he wanted to keep it at the club and that's what he's done.

"Now we just move forward and hopefully we can have a good few years and some good success behind us."

Arjan De Zeeuw and David Unsworth allowed to leave

Both Arjan De Zeeuw and David Unsworth have been allowed to leave the club this week.

Arjan De Zeeuw: Departing
De Zeeuw, 37, is a long standing fans' favourite at the JJB Stadium and it is perhaps a sign of things to come from new boss Chris Hutchings as he sets about clearing the decks ready for the new season.

David Unsworth meanwhile scored the goal that kept the club in the top flight just one week ago this Sunday and at 33 years of age will have little problem finding himself a new club.

Chris paid tribute to both players, he told the club's official website: "Unsy has only been with us for a few months and he did a brilliant job for us when called upon. His goal against Sheffield United will live long in the memory and its significance can never be underestimated. I wish him all the best for the future"

"Arjan has been a wonderful servant to Wigan Athletic, a true leader on and off the field and has been a major player for us in two spells here, and I've been privileged to work with him during both. He is definitely one of the best professionals I have ever worked with during my time in football and I wish him all the best in the future."

Website and Programme editor Ed Jones paid a special tribute to captain and legend Arjan De Zeeuw - you can read that article here.

Whelan stokes the Tevez arguement

After leading the way with the legal arguement, chairman Dave Whelan has called for the resignation of Richard Scudamore and Dave Richards from the Premier League.

The out-spoken Wiganer said: "I would like to once again ask the question in my email of 11 May, did you actually receive a copy of the documentation from West Ham which showed that the original agreement between West Ham and MSI/JSI had been cancelled?

"The judgment given by the independent panel ordered that the registration of Tevez could be terminated by the Premier League. You then proceeded to hold a board meeting by telephone between yourself, the chairman and the secretary.

"I am appalled that the chairman would allow such an important decision to be made on the basis of a telephone call. Surely a decision of this magnitude required an open and full discussion. You had been ordered by the chairman of the commission to seriously consider the termination of this contract.

"Your failure to do so in my mind is a dereliction of duties of both the chairman and yourself and you should consider resigning."

Latics chasing Carsley and Purse

The latest transfer rumours are linking the club with moves for Everton midfielder Lee Carsley and Cardiff centre back Darren Purse.

Meantime, it is rumoured that both Matt Jackson and Josip Skoko have been offered twelve month extensions to their current deals and the pair are said to be mulling them over.
