Arsenal in for Tekke

The Latics had an initial bid of £3 million turned down last week and Jewell thought the deal was dead and his club Trabzonspor would not sell.

However he has discovered the Arsenal have made an offer for the striker and this has forced his hand before the transfer window closes.

The Sunday People newspaper reported Jewell as saying: "We know from Turkey that Arsenal are also in."

The Gunners' offer is believed to be only slightly more than the £3 million the Latics offered, and it is likely to be turned down.

Trabzonspor are holding out for a fee upwards of £7 million, anything less and there would be outrage amoungst their supporters.
