Fan favourite Ali Al Habsi announced yesterday that he will be leaving Wigan Athletic after five years at the club.

The goalkeeper took to social media outlets Twitter and Instagram, to both inform and thank the fans regarding his decision.

A decision that has been confirmed as a mutual one between the club and Al Habsi.

After joining from local rivals Bolton for the 2010/2011 season, the Oman national team captain has made over 150 competitive appearances for the Latics.

Al Habsi showed his appreciation to the fans via Instagram, he posted: "I guess it is time to say goodbye after a wonderful 5 years spend with #WAFC."

The 32-year old is now eligible to move to another club for free, after his contract expired at the end of what has been a miserable campaign for the Latics.

Al Habsi was also on the substitutes bench when Wigan Athletic won the FA Cup back in 2013.
