The striker even went as far as staging a sit in protest prior to the Latics game in a bid for a new contract.

Chairman Gislason has not yet responded and the the former Bristol City and Gillingham front man is getting more unsettled.

He is free to talk to other clubs as there is less than six months to run on his contract and he may agree a pre-contract deal with another club for the end of the season.

Akinbiyi's agent, Gary Mellor has told The Sentinel: "We have heard about all the interest in Ade from Championship clubs, but the call we would most like to hear is from the chairman of Stoke City.

"Ade has always maintained that he has been happy at Stoke. The supporters have been fantastic to him and he wants the board to show the same ambition that the supporters do."
