United Preview: No favours

Last updated : 09 May 2008 By Michael Goodman
Ever since our promotion to the Premier League, the Latics have been featured on Sky Sports on the last day of the season and Sundays game is no different.

With a 25,000 sell out capacity and millions of people watching around the globe, Wigan fans will be hoping that come 5:00pm Chelsea are the Champions of England.

Manchester United have been fantastic this season and that is mainly down to the form of one player.

Wilson Palacios: Chance to shine
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 40 goals in all competitions and from mainly playing in midfield. Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez have also been instrumental this season and containing all three is a tall order.

Antonio Valencia and Wilson Palacios have surely been two of the best signings that Wigan has ever made and with both being linked to moves to Old Trafford, the pair will want to show Sir Alex Ferguson what they are all about.

The win at Aston Villa was a huge result for the club and having secured Premier League football for another season, Steve Bruce will be awfully proud of his achievements.

The club was in the relegation zone when he took over and with only 8 points on the board, since then he has guided Latics to the 40 point mark and safety.

A snip at £3m from Birmingham in the circumstances. Picking up points against the 'top four' including a last gasp goal at Stamford Bridge a highlight of the Bruce factor.

A point or more against Manchester United will be one of the greatest results in the clubs history and will give Latics fan ultimate bragging rights over the Armchair Man Utd fan.

The atmosphere will be electric and the fans will surely give total backing to the team to try and upset the odds.

Key Players for Manchester United

Rio Ferdinand
- Solid at the back for Man Utd this season alongside Nemanja Vidic. One of the favourites for the England captaincy under Fabio Capello and a record signing for a defender from Leeds Utd at £30m. Strong and Quick, he will try to keep our attacking options quiet.

Cristiano Ronaldo - Needs no introductions and is one of, if not the best player in the world at the moment. Has the ability to produce moments of magic and a scorer of great goals. A very dangerous threat.

Paul Scholes - Still going strong for the Red Devils and put Man Utd through to the Champions League final with a scorcher from distance against Barcelona. Works very hard and has great vision.

Carlos Tevez - Another player who needs no introduction, his goal that kept West Ham up last season relegated Sheffield United under ridiculous circumstances. That's all in the past now and has become one of the stars of the season for Man Utd. Another player who can make something out of nothing and will have to be watched.

Prediction

As much as I would like to put down for us to get 3 points or 1 point out of this game, I feel Man Utd will be hungry for the title and go all out for the win. A close game with plenty of action at either ends. 1-2.
