Preview: Will Bramble be Titus On Michael Owen?

Last updated : 30 August 2007 By Liam Cooper
It is a tale of two players. During his spell at Newcastle, Bramble forged a reputation of dropping clangers which led to goals.
Super Sib: Three goals in four games

Meanwhile, in his one season with the Toon army Antoine Sibierski endeared himself to the fans, scoring numerous crucial goals; in the UEFA Cup in particular.

Both joined Wigan within 24 hours of each other and have since proved fantastic free transfers in the four games they have played. Sib' is top scorer with three goals in four games whilst Bramble has formed a solid defensive partnership with Andreas Granqvist.

That parternship is not expected to be broken, despite the return of Emmerson Boyce. He could return at left-back after a 70 minute run-out in that position in mid-week, although that would be unfair on Kevin Kilbane, who has been fantastic at left-back.

Hutch: Seeking first away win (Dont wear the pink shirt then!)
Sibierski meanwhile is struggling to be fit for Saturday, after feeling his groin tighten during last weeks 1-1 draw with West Ham. Hutch said: "Sibierski is coming along steadily but only time will tell if he will be fit for Saturday or included in the squad, but he has a few days yet to prove his fitness."

Newcastle is not one of Wigans favourite places to play. Since promotion Latics have lost twice, conceding five goals in those two games. Although Wigan hold an unbeaten home record against the Toon, Hutch will be hoping to pick up his first victory on the road this Saturday.

Sam Allardyce has led unbeaten Newcastle to seventh, despite injuries to many of his key players. Joey Barton is yet to make his debut, although Michael Owen could start after playing, and scoring, in his sides midweek Carling Cup win.

And for Bramble, keeping Owen quiet and more importantly a clean sheet, will help him prove to the Newcaslte fans how capable a defender he is.

With the possibility of Martins and Own up front, there is plenty of pace for Newcaslte to work with. However, unlike last years ageing back four, Hutchings has built a youthful, faster defence. One which will arguably get its first major test this Saturday.

One to Watch

Martins up front is a livewire, who can create something out of nothing. His blistering pace last season caused many problems for Wigan's ageing back line, but could come unstuck against this years more youthful looking back four.

My prediction

Like last week, a point at a difficult ground would be a good days work. However, if Wigan do take the lead, i hope they rid themselves of last years defensive lapse which led to an equaliser just three minutes after taking the lead.
